Artists of the 2003 Colorado Irish Festival

The 9th Annual Colorado Irish Festival features the biggest lineup of international artists ever brought to the Irish Festival stage. Join us for two hour-long performances by each of these groups on the main stage daily...click on their pictures to visit their web sites.

The Legendary Tommy Makem

Prepare to meet the singer that started America's love affair with Irish Ballads. Tommy Makem has also been known for many years as the modern day Bard of Armagh and is regarded around the world as "The Godfather" of Irish music.
Armed with his banjo, tinwhistle, poetry, stagecraft and his magnificent baritone voice, Tommy has been mesmerizing audiences for more than four decades. He has expanded and reshaped the boundaries of Irish culture, and infused a pride in that culture in the Irish, and a quest for knowledge of that culture in countless others.

This will be a rare appearance in Colorado by the legendary artist.

The Prodigals

The Irish Voice in March wrote, "The Prodigals peeled the paint off the walls of the Village Underground last Thursday night with a new lineup that reaffirmed their position as the kings of jig punk." From Ireland and New York, The Prodigals send up Irish music with an energy and enthusiasm as no other band can equal. Leader Greg Grene is joined by new member and guitarist Colm O'Brien, late of the Dublin music scene, Chris Nicolo on drums and verteran virtuoso Andrew Harkin on bass. Better than ever and bringing the searing sounds of Ireland to the base of the Rockies.

Colcannon

Armed with their new hit CD, "Trad" they are more than a great band playing music from the Celtic tradition, Colcannon has their own unique magic! The group has developed a distinctive, inventive, and contemporary musical style while still keeping in firm touch with the heart and essence of traditional Irish music. Colcannon’s concerts are renowned for their energy, for singer/frontman Mick Bolger’s irrepressible sense of humor and sly wit, and, of course, for the music; music that expresses flights of joy, deep sorrows, and an unquenchable zest for life.

One of the clearest sounds in all of Irish Music...

The Donncha Lynch Band

Coming direct from Cork, Ireland to the Colorado Irish Festival, Donncha, Caitlin, and Ronan Lynch bring the true, clear sound of Cork and Kerry set dance ceili music to the Colorado Rockies.

By the popular demand of Festivalgoers, these musicians return to the main stage, and to free workshops on Irish social dancing, sean-nos singing, bodhran, fiddle, button accordion, spoons and more. Meet them up close, learn from some Irish originals, and by all means dance the night away at the Ceili on Friday, July 11. This is the heart of the Colorado Irish Festival!

The Elders

We're excited about a new addition to this year's Colorado Irish Festival, The Elders. Based in Kansas City, their songs describe past Irish history, real or totally made up. The traditional instrumental sound of these guys has solid rock foundations. Adding the striking vocals of singer Ian Byrne to that makes this one terrific Celtic Rock band. Most of their songs are written by the band, including multi-instrumentalist Brent Hoad. Celtic rock enthusiasts are at the right address when this band delivers the mail.
